Joy -- Day 1

“We should, to begin with, think that God leads a very interesting life, and that he is full of joy.  Undoubtedly he is the most joyous being in the universe.  The abundance of his love and generosity is inseparable from his infinite joy.  All of the good and beautiful things from which we occasionally drink tiny droplets of soul-exhilarating joy, God continuously experiences in all their breadth and depth and richness.”  (Dallas Willard, The Divine Conspiracy, 62.)

But the fruit of the Spirit is ... joy ...  (Galations 5:25).  Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp.  He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.  He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.  His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.”  (Psalm 147:7-11).  For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation.  (Psalm 150:4).   Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4).

1. What comes to mind when you think of joy?  Share a joyous experience from your life.

2. What brings God delight?  (Feel free to use other passages of scripture as well).

3. When does the Psalmist say God gives us the desires of our heart?
