Joy - Day 3

Let’s look more closely today at what the joy set before Christ was:

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ.  He forgave all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.  And, having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.  (Col. 2:13-15).  On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever.  The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.  The LORD has spoken.  (Isaiah 25:7-8).  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Rev. 21:5). Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  (1 Cor. 5:17).  And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to serve him to love the name of the LORD, and to worship him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant –  these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer.”  (Isaiah 56:6-7)

1. From the Colossians verse, when did God make us alive in Christ?  How much of our sin has been forgiven?  What other effect did the cross have as explained in this passage?

2. What has God swallowed up forever?  From the Isaiah 25, what else will God do?

3. Who has God made new?  In what areas of your life is God making something – has God recently made something – new?
